Interview with Jessie McQuade Nightcreature

This is a character rolepay interview with the character Jessie McQuade from the award winning novels
Lori Handeland

Approaching  in the truck, thanks the gods I got it back today for the third time as I smash down into the pot holes in the lane that runs alongside the huge pond I was scheduled to meet my candidate.  The setting is beautiful, acres and acres of pine and fern.  The scent, I hope will stay in my car the whole drive back to the city.
I pass through the clearing and find the lodge where I am to meet Jessie.  Parking my truck and grabbing my shades and notebook, I head for the entrance.  I see her immediatly, her har is wet from having already been for a swim.  A passion of hers I already knew about.  She stands and smiles and offers her hand.  She has a firm grip.  A strong woman.  I smile back and we exchange small talk before I begin.
After a few more moments I start asking her my questions.

Sara- Jessie, Can you describe yourself as a police officer and as a person within society?

(Jessie) I was a cranky and bored officer. I loved my job, but I wanted more excitement besides the routine fender bender and disturbances from tourists who visit in the summer. As an officer, I was the best tracker and skilled shooter. My status in society was.... **thinks** I was a cop. Work was my life and everyone knew in my off time, I stayed home or swam. Swimming in my pond was the only other thing I loved more than being an officer. That was until I met William. **smile spreads across her face**

I smile back. Given her strong stance she has a wonderful bright smile.
Sara- The police.... how come? *sips my latte*  where did the career choice come from?

(Jessie) Growing up, I learned how to think fast on my feet. I had to because my father left when I was barely able to speak and my mom **frowns** let's just say she'd rather paint my nails than teach me how to defend myself.  With my street smart skills and the tracking ones I learned from Craig Simmons (who learned them from George Standwater), police work was my calling. Again, that changed as you know. **smiles**
Sara-*Smiles back and scribbles down everything inlcuding the names she states* Curious of the few times the natives have popped up in coversation.. and an encestor of my own I have to ask.
Sara- Native indians? do you belong to a tribe or is it ancestrial linked?

(Jessie) No, I do not belong to any tribe. No ancestral link either.

Sara- *laughs* socially inept? why is that?

(Jessie) I learned the hard way people leave me. My father did for parts unknown.  My mom did for Arizona when I was fresh out of high school.  I thought why get close to people and be let down.  If I kept them at arm's distance, then I can't get hurt.

Sara- Lowering my eyelids to hide my understanding of her background I scribble some more and move on.

You carry guns loaded with silver bullets...do you police a society where rogue were's are common?

**laughs** If you would've asked me that a few years ago, I would looked at you like you were crazy. Weres, who would have thunk it? Now, I carry them wherever I go. Some women can't leave home without mascara or lipstick. For me, it's my .44 and silver knife.

Sara- As she speaks of such things so matter of factly I try and not show that I am indeed crapping byself incase she needs to use that .44 OR the knife...shoving the thoughts to the back of my mind I press on with a question that will surly lighten the mood.

Your wedding to William sounds idyllic.. was it a big affair?  Also were you worried about anything going wrong on the day?

(Jessie) Idyllic?  Yeah, it was perfect in a roundabout way with a room filled ONLY J-S agents. I learned the love me and William had for one another was legit.  If we never would've brroken the talismans created by Cora, then I think our marriage would have been doomed from the start.  How can you truly be happy if you doubt your mates love for you. **speaks firmly** You can't.
*Nods my head and writes it down*

As for thinking anything could go  wrong.   Edward assured me he took measures to make sure no creatures would disturb the wedding. I trust him, but when I found Will's room empty, hell yeah I thought the worst. I mean who the hell work-outs on their wedding day. **groans** Yup, only one and I married him. **face lights up**
*Smiles*

Sara-*Quote from Bio*Jessie only believes what she see's ...given everything you see and do with your life is it a fair comment to say nothing surprises you ?

(Jessie) When I was an officer, I believed life was only black and white, no shades of gray. This was before werewolves came to my town and I learned firsthand they were shades of gray. My eyes were opened and life as I knew it was forever changed. It is safe to  say nothing really surprises me much anymore.  Hell, once you've seen a person transform in a wolf and then blow up, pretty much anything can happen AND DOES. **smiles**
*shudders at the very thought*

Sara-   What was going through your head when the teacher was bitten by the wolf? and turned crazy?

(Jessie) When I found Karen Larson, I did what I was trained to do. Get the facts, access the situation, and address the wound. I had no clue it was a werewolf. In our parts, only aggressive or rabid wolves attack people. So at first, I proceeded with the case as if I was only dealing with a rabid animal.

Miss Larson going loco at the elementary school was a huge shocker. I think, "What the bloody hell.", comes to mind. No matter what thoughts were going through my head, I had a job to do and stayed calm. Ok, yes the foaming of the mouth and the teacher growling was freaking as f.... **laughs** Now, it's just another day at the office. **smirks**

*My eyes grow wide a smile tries really hard to crack my face,,,but she looks at me as if I am pain and so I carry on and just write it all down*

Sara-  How did you feel when William started sharing information about the natives beliefs of the wolfs?

(Jessie) I came to him for help on the totem. He was a great asset in the investigation. I know what you're thinking. Ok yes, I thought he was a wolf for a bit, but hey I can be wrong once. **winks**

As we finesh our drinks outside on the deck overlooking the pond she carries on with a little of her background.  Its not for anyone elses ears though, just mine.  I like to see my candidates through my own eyes and not always through the writers,  and as the others before her, I have.  Jessie seems to be someone who,  apart from having trust in her eyes and ears. Knows when its time to trust her heart.  It made her who she is today,, a bit of advice for all of us right there I think *winks*
